Attorneys from around the world gathered at SCG Legal’s 2016 Annual Meeting

BALTIMORE, Md., September 28, 2016 – Rifkin Weiner Livingston LLC (RWL), announced today that managing partner, Alan M. Rifkin, led a panel session on Evolving Legal Issues in Sports Law at the worldwide network, SCG Legal, at its 2016 Annual Meeting in Boston, MA on September 16, 2016.

The session, “Cracks in the Armor: Recent Legal Challenges to Professional & Collegiate Sports Governance Associations,” examined historic actions challenging governance of collegiate and professional sports in the rapidly-changing landscape of sports associations and other current topics in the area of domestic sports law. Panelists included Celeste Bruce, Rifkin Weiner Livingston; David Greenspan, Winston & Strawn; and Glenn Wong, University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Management.

Rifkin is a commercial and business attorney who has represented many national and international corporations and institutions for over three decades. His clients include the Baltimore Orioles, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (“MASN”), the Maryland Jockey Club, the Preakness® Stakes and others.  He was recognized by the Maryland Daily Record in 2007 as one of the 50 “Influential Marylanders,” as one of Maryland’s best lawyers by Super Lawyers® Magazine every year since 2008, and by Legal Leaders® magazine every year since 2010. Rifkin is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell and in 2015 was acknowledged for career achievement as one of Maryland’s “Top Litigators.”

“The panel was very well received by lawyers from around the world who are interested in sports law,” said Rifkin. “From claims to compensation for collegiate athletes to class actions for concussion-related brain injuries in the NFL to the FIFA claims in soccer, the sports industry is facing many new and evolving challenges.”

Rifkin has served as past Chairman of SCG Legal. His other board memberships include the Board of Directors for the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the Aspire Foundation.
