BRYANT & REITH TO CO-CHAIR RWL GOVERNMENT RELATIONS DIVISION
Led by Joel Rozner for over 15 years, RWL’s GR Division has been a fixture in Maryland for 30 years
Rifkin Weiner Livingston LLC (RWL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Bryant and John C. “JR” Reith as co-chairs of the RWL Government Relations Division.
Led the past 15 years by Joel Rozner, one of the founding partners of RWL, the RWL Government Relations Division pioneered the team approach to lobbying in Maryland. With such prestigious clients as Dominion Energy, the Maryland Realtors Association, the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association, the Maryland Jockey Club, the Maryland Hospital Association, Facebook, FedEx, Orsted, PEPCO, Uber, Waste Management, and others, the RWL Government Relations Division is a long-time fixture in Annapolis.
The Firm’s announcement passes the torch to the next generation of leadership at the Firm. Mr. Rozner will continue his substantial practice and promoted the Firm’s leadership transition to Eric Bryant, an accomplished Democrat, and JR Reith, an accomplished Republican. Together, Mr. Bryant and Mr. Reith have over four decades of proven skills in state and local government governance.
For the past twenty-two legislative sessions, Mr. Bryant has been at the forefront of groundbreaking legal and policy initiatives in Maryland. His early government relations work focused on Maryland’s gaming debate and laid the foundation for his successful work on similarly complex issues such as how to regulate online political advertising (a first in the nation model); how to legalize ridesharing in Maryland (established a first in the nation legal standard); how to fully regulate peer-to-peer car sharing (another first in the nation); and whether the state should tax internet sales (an issue ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court). Mr. Bryant has been actively engaged in federal, state, and local politics for nearly thirty years. He started his legal career as a litigation associate with a national law firm and with the National NAACP.
John “JR” Reith, formerly director of business development for the Firm, served as co-chairman for two of former governor Robert L. Ehrlich’s campaigns for governor. He also served as a member of the Inaugural Committee for Governor Larry Hogan in 2015 and was co-chairman of the Inaugural Committee for Baltimore City Mayor Catherine Pugh in 2016. Mr. Reith has represented various industries in Maryland, including information technology, health care, energy, real estate, alcohol manufacturing, engineering, infrastructure, transportation, bond bills for non-profit organizations, and procurement. With a solid resume of campaign strategy achievements, he provides RWL clients with valuable insight and direction.
As Mr. Rozner notes, “I’m honored to turn over the leadership of the Firm’s substantial government relations practice to Eric and JR. They are seasoned professionals whose only interest is the betterment of our clients. I look forward to lending whatever I can to their success and that of our clients.”
The Firm’s Managing Partner, Alan Rifkin, echoed those thoughts “Joel’s leadership, talents and professionalism as the chairman of the Firm’s Government Relations Division set a high bar, but Eric and JR have shown that they have the ability and professionalism to meet that high standard. I know they will lead the Firm and our clients well.”
