Statement of Alan M. Rifkin on Behalf of RWL on the Passing of The Honorable Melvin A. “Mickey” Steinberg
Everyone at RWL is profoundly saddened today by the passing of our colleague and friend, The Honorable Melvin A. “Mickey” Steinberg. Simply, Mickey was one of a kind. As a State Senator, Senate President and later Lt. Governor, Mickey’s ability to bring people together and forge consensus with his brilliance, humor, dedication and compassion for others was truly remarkable. Because of Mickey’s unique abilities, talents, integrity and demeanor, Maryland stood in the forefront of healthcare policy, economic development, infrastructure improvements, higher education reform and much more, including the groundbreaking legislative and budgetary authorizations that created the Maryland Stadium Authority and forged the approvals for Oriole Park at Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium. Not only was Mickey a pivotal leader in the political and cultural fabric of Maryland in ways that few have been, he always prioritized his family. Mickey was a giant in Maryland politics and government and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mickey’s loving wife Anita, his children Eddie, Susan and Barbara, and all of the Steinberg’s extended family members.
